Let's talk to the Author of "IVORY GLEAM"

Hello BookLovers!!
I recently read the book "IVORY GLEAM" by Dr. Priya Dolma Tamang.
And today, I am here with her interview.
Check it out.💓💓

Simran:
When did you realize that you wanted to be a writer?

Dr. Priya:
I am still not certain if I want to be a writer. Jokes apart, we are all writers in our own right, covering varied branches in the documentation. Every reader is a writer and most of the writers read. Professionally, writing had never been a priority. Sharing my work on social media platforms provided an initial impetus. And the book happened rather accidentally. Hence, I am yet to come to terms with the fact that writing has taken a serious turn in my life.

Simran
How much time does it take for you to write a book?

Dr. Priya
Depending on my mood and inclination, anywhere between 1 month to 1 year. This is talking about poetry which usually spans sensitive periods of candid upheavals. I have not experimented with writing fictional stories.

Simran
One of the qualities you learned from writing?

Dr. Priya
Writing is therapeutic. It enabled me to reflect inwards as I kept unloading my angst onto the verses. This practice has helped me check my behavior because it is the closest to my own mind I can get. It is the mirror of our psyche.

Simran
Where did you get the inspiration for writing such a book?

Dr. Priya
Life took an adult toll on me. I was frantic in my search for answers to many of life’s unsolved mysteries. In my quest to adopt spirituality as either the means or the end of it all, I started attributing every heartache to lessons that the soul had pre-planned to learn. The underlying theme of my book is practical spirituality where detachment from the ego and observation of events without personal involvement make our struggles easier. If it is the soul that has loved, there is no pain in longing and no loss in departure.

Simran
What do you like to do when you're not writing? As in, what are your hobbies?

Dr. Priya
Cooking and eating should make me a foodie. I am fond of good food and delight in learning about world cuisines. I also sketch, paint and doodle extremely amateurish.

Simran
When did you write your first book? What was the inspiration behind it?

Dr. Priya
It was written in the year 2017. Ivory Gleam is a compilation of poetic ramblings that piled up over a phase of self-reflection. They were not originally written for publication, but more as “notes to self”.

Simran
Your favorite author?

Dr. Priya
I read books by Dr. Brian Weiss on the transcendence of Spirit and transmigration of souls.

Simran
What do you think makes a good story?

Dr. Priya
Honesty makes everything beautiful. I love reading genuine portrayals of events or individuals minus the pretentious jargon of contrived impressive writing. A good story is one that is narrated from the heart.

Simran
Any suggestions for the budding writers?

Dr. Priya
It takes courage to lay bare your ideas in words or to emote on paper. You are subjecting your artistry to onlookers of multiple temperaments. Many will appreciate your work. And some may be dismissive. Please do not get carried away by the compliments or bogged down by criticism. Understand that you are brave and this bravery is your first shield. Losing your signature style to follow the crowd or people-please will be an insult to your craft. Be you. Stay original. Your individuality will remain your biggest strength.

Simran
Was writing your initial goal?

Dr. Priya
My initial goal was emotional venting of pent up unrest and sentimental hoarding of cherishable memories. I took to writing as an easy refuge and undeniably, it empowered me enough to move past old hurts and rediscover myself in a new light. I am sharing my work to help others help themselves, either by relating to what I write or by getting encouraged to write more of their own stories.
